Frequently Asked Questions

No, each volunteer applies once for each intake. However, you have an opportunity on the application form to apply for more than one sector. Once your application has been submitted you cannot edit. Make sure you review before submitting your application.
All applications will be reviewed by a selection panel. Only those that pass the selection criteria will receive an email with login details. Applicants can at this point log in the system and monitor progress of their application.
Yes, you are encouraged to apply again in the subsequent intakes. For applicants who passed the selection criteria but were not placed, just log in the system using same credentials and update your application form.
No, volunteer cannot change or edit their application after it is submitted.
This is only possible before volunteer matching process has commenced. However, employers can make additional volunteer requests even if the recruitment process is on-going. Additional volunteer requests are made online using the same host institution login credentials.
If you get a job you would like to take before the end of your 12 months placement period, you should contact your supervisor/ mentor and he/she will advise you on the handover process.
Yes, an employer can hire a volunteer before end of the twelve months placement period. The employer will contact the graduate volunteer scheme, this will subsequently result into the volunteer getting a fresh contract/ offer letter from the employer.
Applicants to the UGVS should have completed their studies and ready to work. Usually the assignments will be 8:00am to 5:00 pm on average and would be challenging to balance school and work.
No. UGVS targets graduate youth with a certificate or diploma from TVET, bachelor and master’s degree from a recognized tertiary institution. Applicants must commit 12 months for the volunteer placement

Yes, host institutions can request volunteers from different categories. You must fill different volunteer request forms and specify the volunteer details.
Volunteers will not earn a salary. They will receive a moderate monthly allowance to cover for their transport and meals
Host institutions will cover pre-approved expenses incurred by the volunteer during execution of their duties.
No, all volunteer positions will be full-time. The placement period is 12 months.
